My mare had her shoes taken off in March this year and was doing okay but now due to hard ground conditions is foot sore and i am looking at anyway in relieving this for her. She will not be ridden again and wil spend her days grazing with her friends. I have looked at Hoof Boots on the web can anyone recommend these and if so which brand and are they difficult to fit would not want her tripping as she had a collateral ligament injury. Or any other suggestions welcome.

vettec solegaurd.

Or hoof boots, either boa or old macs, but I found Boa boots to rub the hell out of Teds legs and had to take the decision to have shoes back on as he just could not cope!

Take a look here:

If you want to use boots it is important to get the boot that is the most suitable shape for your horses foot.

I use the easyboot epic with gaiters on my mare. The easyboots sit below the hair line, so there isn't any boot to actually rub on the horse. The gaiters are good neoprene.

I have done a lot of miles in my boots (mainly on the road) and I have been using mine for about 18 months, and they are still going.

There is a certain knack to getting the boots on - but unfortunately it is practice to get them on easily I think. The easyboot website is good as it has quite a few videos you can watch to show how to fit the boots and put them on - which can be helpful.

I agree, the epics are fantastic, they don't rub, slip or twist and once you get the knack of putting them on they're easy. If you rub some hoof moisturiser onto the hoof wall before you put them on it makes them loads easier to get off!
