Hoof care advice - cracked soles

Just been talking with my friend and she has mentioned that her little section a's soles are cracked. The hoof wall itself is fine, just underneath and also there is a slight smell. Any one have any ideas what might this be/happening and also what could she use to treat it.

We use a Kevin Bacon product for hoof wall - recommended by farrier - as he has rubbish feet but can't remember exact name, except it's a red tub . Also feeding Farriers Formula - again recommended by farrier. But a friend uses a different Kevin Bacon product which has a liquorice smell and paints it inside hoof. Could he/she have thrush?

Yes, I also use this as well and it is fantastic for dealing with cracks and also keeping thrush at bay. I used to put it on at night and because it is like lard it gives there feet a slightly non stick quality so it stops the poo getting stuck round the frog, although I always do pick them out in the morning before turnout.
