Following on from my thread of a couple of days ago I've taken some pics of my boys feet and put them in an album.

Hope the link works!

I've had him 4 weeks and he was shod 2 weeks ago. Over tracks and has a history of pulling shoes so is out in over reach boots. Hooves are in a bit of a state with chunks missing where the shoe has taken hoof with it when it goes.

Above the mess the feet look good. Farrier feels that he should have sound hooves within 3-4 months. However given that he obviously has the propensity for his feet to get into a state, I would really like comments on what people think of them now and advice on what I should be doing to make sure they continue to grow well.

He is currently out on good pasture all day, fed Happy Hoof (legacy of previous home - would welcome suggestions for a replacement), Spillers Ballancer, a scoop and a half of Global Herbs GlobalVite and a Garlic/Parsley/Linseed oil mix. Use Kevin Bacon hoof dressing once a day, all over the hoof.

Thank you! Bit of a hoof novice so any advice greatly welcomed.

The hind with the sock looks bullnosed/convex which is due to his non hoof friendly diet with his previous owner. The heel is also under-run on that hoof.

The fore hooves look like they would like to grow down at a steeper angle and the heels are under-run with no support form the shoe. The shoes are short in an effort to stop him from pulling off shoes. However this will only encourage his heels to become more under-run. The problem with long toes and under-run heels is that the breakover (the point at which the hoof lifts up from the floor) is delayed, so the horse is more likely to catch the fore hooves with the hind hooves as it moves.
