Was wondering if anybody had come across superficial horizontal cracks in the hoof wall, just below the coronet band. It is in the heel area and my farrier isnt worried. Doesn't appear to bother the horse now although it did for a few days at the start.

any information would be appreciated.

HUm.. seen this type of this when the horse has received a blow on the coronet band and the patch of hoof has not grown for a couple of weeks. Bit like a bruise..
Also sometimes seen if a horse has brittle feet and gets laminitus.

As you farrier isnt worrid.. i wouldnt worry about it. He's the one looking at hooves day in day out and is most qualified to say.

I had one in that position growing out for nearly a year from just after we got the horse. The farrier wasn't worried about it and he said it was from using studs (??). Anyway the horse went dog lame about a year later with what turned out to be navicular syndrome. Probably completely unrelated but I sometimes wonder.

We got her straight again via the barefoot route. Her feet are so rock solid now that cracks and chips just don't happen any more.
