Did I once read that putting hoof treatments on is totally fruitless except the application to the coronet band and frog?
Also do people still use water based products rather than oil ones and why do you do this?
 
In the case of my horse I always use water based products (for the reason you stated). I just wondered if other people follow the same philosophy.
My horse has poor feet in the summer, mainly on the front. They tend to dry out and crumble/break off around the clenches and below them.
I use hoof moist currently. I am loathe to put him on a feed supplement such as farrier's formula/biotin because he already has 2 supplements that are essential to him.
 
there is no point on putting dressings on the hoof coz all you are doing is moisting the hoof up so it goes more elastic and then they be ome thes water proof!
