Would you at any point expect to see the toe 'over' the shoe as such?

Got my boy done today, usual guy was on holiday so got the apprentices out.

I really love my usual guy, he has so much knowledge and experience and I doubt these guys would be 'bad' as such.

Just curious as it does look a little odd.

front or hind shoes???!!!

If the front has a single clip then no the toe should not be over hanging the shoe anywhere!

If the front has double clips there may be a small amount of toe over hanging (especially if the toe has then been rolled.) Double clipped shoes are normally used where there needs to be a change of breakover or the toe is running away and needs to be brought back.

If its hind feet then yes this is very good practice. Its called setting back and there can be as much as an inch or more over hanging. It helps prevent forging and over reaching. It also gives good heel and leg support as there tends to be a bit of heel bar length.

It is his fronts. He only has his backs trimmed.

I've googled it a bit and I beleive its about the breakover. He doesn't have any clips on his shoes.

I just thought it's very very obvious. I took a photo but don't want to post it over the internet.

Clipless shoes. Hmmm.

Cant say i have much time for them, a lot of farriers are using them now but it seems to be a bit of a trend/fad. A clip is worth several nails in terms of securing a shoe to the foot and clipless is normally reserved for showing horses only.

Could also be natural balance shoes. Do they look like normal shoes or is the toe of the shoe much wider and slightly square?

I do show and requested clipless shoes which farrier was happy to give them a go. With regards to the underside they are normal shoes. From the underside it looks as if perhaps he's not taken enough hood off.

I did notice when leading to the field he looked as if he had a different action but that might have/probably wouldve!, been my imagination.

Mine has "clipless" shoes in front, in his case they are Natural Balance shoes but it might not be the same for your horse. They are set back a bit so his toe looks a bit like the toe is "over" the front of the shoe. He moves totally differently in them - in normal shoes he was tending to land toe first and stumbling too. In the NBs he lands heel first on every surface and strides out more.

Clipless shoes are as i said appropriate for showing. Not for use on ever horse because its ''cool'' Anyway

I suggest if you are concerned you ask you farrier to come out and check the work that was done.
