Fascinating videos, the first one with the laminar moving was especially interesting.
I have my horse barefoot, and the more I learn about hooves in general (unrelated to either pro or anti barefoot) I cant imagine WHY you would want shoes on your horse? I understand that some people find it hard to cope with barefoot horses, but I've always been of the opinion to keep your animals as best you can, so if I had a shod horse and tried to take the shoes off I'd find out why the horse wasnt comfortable and treat that, not put the shows back on to mask it.
Heart bar shoes are rather distressing! If they are hot shod (as seems to be recommended) surely they would really damage the frog? Are they only recommended to be used temporarily do you know?
What's interesting about the farrier video, is that they talk about the hoof capsule and caudal hoof yet surely they realise the shoes are damaging this?

Thats exactly my attitude now samlf - I dont think there is a situation where leaving shoes on actually helps rather than hides a problem!

I thought they were interesting showing the movement of the hoof, and how something rigid on the end of that then compromises everything above :D

Very interesting videos, thanks for sharing.

My boy is shod and still produces a frog shape in the ground and has lovely fleshy frogs and heels so the image of the shod horse produces just a shoe shape is not correct for all shod horses!

I have tried him barefoot a couple of times but he couldn't cope and I don't have the time or money at the moment to transition him properly using boots etc.
