Help pls, horse at yard has severe thrush around hoof and butress of hoof wall especially the line that goes down the bulb of the heels. Vet has debrided and advised daily hibiscrub washes along with then keeping clean and dry. Owner concerned about the coming winter as the horse is still suffering with this condition after only 4 hrs t/out! Anyone else had any success with this or can reccomend any other topical apllications? Horse is 17.3hh id cross and has pretty good feet otherwise. Thanks

I would be inclined to make sure that the Farrier keeps the frogs really well trimmed back. One of mine had the same problem when he was a 4 yr old and we just kept the frogs well trimmed and the feet really well shod and supported. We got the frogs trimmed in between shoeings as well and did as your vet suggested- used Hibiscrub with a hard, bristle brush a couple of times a day to clean the feet out. Keeping the feet
dry on a clean and dry bed and, not turning out/hacking anywhere muddy really helped. Sand is also abrasive and can aggravate the condition so I avoided the school for a while as well- when I did use the school I found it helpful to clean the feet/brush them out straightaway as well- we still do this now.

I found Keratex Frog disinfectant to work really well, as well as good trimming. Canker is rarer, but more serious!!.

Net Tex Frog Health disinfectant in addition to the scrubbing with either Hibiscrub or diluted Milton should knock the thrush on the head pretty quickly. It is brilliant.

Just had this problem with my mare on box rest. Been scrubbing her feet out daily with a hard brush and hibiscrub then applying purple spray to the dry foot and has cleared up nicely.

Second the Net Tex Frog Health - was recommended this by a friend (cleared up her horses thrush after years of trying other things!). Works really really well. I use it daily on all mine now just to keep the hoof healthy.

My vet has recommended a product called Frog Cleaner (I think that is what its called) by Mustad. He has recommended to various of his clients and has had some fantastic feedback. He put some on Henry's feet and they smell so much better now.

Another product I have tried is some thick brown stuff called Kevin Bacon...although I personally would try to Mustad stuff first. It comes in a small bottle and is a purple liquid.

My horse suffers from thrush. I use hydrogen peroxide solution to flush it out then I apply sudocream - it works really well in drying it out.

When the thrush has gone I normally resort to purple spraying once a day to help stop the thrush coming back
