Hoof keeps cracking!!

Hi,

Last year my loan horse got a large toe crack in his hoof and after many regular trims it seemed as though we were starting to get it under control, there was little evidence of it being there. However recently it has started getting bigger! The crack line has moved at least half way up his hoof and has started to spread at the bottom (only a little). Obviously we want to get this back under control asap!

He is currently bare foot and this crack is only on one hoof. His owner isn't keen on getting shoes put on as this issue started when he had them put on when he was sent to be broken in. Our current farrier is aware of the crack.

Has anyone got any advice that could help is stop this issue?

And have you cleantraxed to make sure there is no underlying infection?

I see this problem recur each summer with a few horses, grass seems to be the culprit. It always clears up in winter.

The only resolution is poor grazing lifestyle.
