this might be a totally daft question but there is a argument on our yard as to whether hoof oil shouldnt be applied when it is really sunny and hot as it burns the hooves any one heard of this

Haven't heard that one before, but hey who knows

When it's dry and hot I do wet her hooves before applying effol though, to lock moisture in. Hope it's the right thing to do

Well i have not heard of that one but there is a argument on my yard that hoof oil dry's out the hooves and makes them crack ...? I always for hoof oil is good for them. Also i doubt hoof oil does burn the hoof because top competion riders and showing horses have it on, all year round ...?

I personally never use hoof pil this time of year but apply cornucresine to nail holes and coronet band

they also put baby oil on their horses and then wonder why they get 3rd degree burns. To be any use you need to look at your horse's diet. Mag ox is good for strengthening without making them brittle as well. Its all well and good slapping oil on their hooves but to be honest I think its a waste of money. I use fungicidal hoof oil but wouldn't touch the show stuff.

on hot and sunny days i use NAF hoof moist. its water based and more like a cream so soaks right in and doesnt stop moisture getting in out the hoof like oil would

ditto! It's been great for my tb and he's always had terrible feet

its fab for my tb although her feet are really good. on wet days i dont use any thing but on dry i thoroughly reccomend hoof moist but i have never heard of hooves burning with oil on?! lol

I never use hoof oil as it can dry hooves out when its hot and locks moisture out when it wet. I use keratex hoof moist in the summer and nothing at all in the winter (well occasionally a little cornicresine round the coronet band).

I find giving Baron an all round supplement that contains biotin has been the best thing.
