Hi, I got my first horse 6 weeks and 4 days ago :) he is an absolute dream and a good doer. I want to do the best for him and give him the best possible care (I am in a fantastic supportive yard where he is on 7 day part livery - all the girls love him because he is so easy). My question is this, even though his hooves are (or seem to be - farrier happy with them) in good condition would a hoof oil help prevent any damage etc. and if so which one ? He is an 11 yr old connie x.

Not really essential, unless you want to show , when you have to make extra effort .........
The quality of hoof is mostly related to feed, and most natives have good feet, if you are feeding soaked forage to keep weight down you may need to add a mineral supplement as the soaking removes both sugars, and minerals.
I like to feed 25-50 gms [very small scoop] of micronised linseed in winter, it is good for skin and hoof.
Keep your farrier onside, if shod he may need shoes every six weeks, and ask your farrier to explain about feet , and he will generally be happy to provide words of wisdom.

Hoof oil stops moisture from getting in to the horn, i wouldnt bother unless they are in bad condition, as the above poster states feed from within for feet.
