So I am using this for the first time - put it in last night in 3 places...

the corner of the groove where the collateral sulcus meets the hoof bulb on his one front (on both sides) and on his hind where there is a cavity at the apex of the frog. He was turned out today and I am a little amazed - they stayed put... the hype is justified!

The thing is that they are meant to stay put for 2-3 days then be removed and replaced... however, I still need to pick out and use topical treatment when he comes in. I managed a basic pick of the back foot a brush off and a spray with sole cleanse without dislodging the hoof stuff but I can't do the same with the front foot, the act of picking the hoof out means I end up catching and lifting the hoof stuff. This is no big deal, if I have to replace daily I will, but I was wondering - how do you leave it in for that long and still pick the feet out? or is the point to pack the entire collateral sulcus and not pick out the foot for a few days??

thanks you for your patience with my most likely stupid question!

I'm not familiar with this so I looked in up on line and found this:

Do you have to remove the pack and clean the crevice daily or does product stay in for certain time?
The length of time the product stays in for varies (dependent on environment and the specific condition) but generally if the pack is staying well in the crevice then replacement is not necessary until it discolours. Generally people find they have to replace it every few days to weekly. Once the crevice has had its initial flushing it will likely not be necessary to clean it out again if it does not get dirt in it again (i.e. if the pack is staying in place).
If you remove the pack and it is still bright white and clean then you likely do not need to replace it as often. If it has become discoloured then you should replace it more often.

It's the same sort of thing with rubber hoof pads that you can use in horses feet. They never get picked out for five weeks (between shoeings) and they do allow a certain amount of water and debris to go in between the pad and the sole of the foot simply due to their design and the gap between the sole and the bottom of the rubber pad in the heel area.

If I have hoof stuff in a crevice I just don't pick that crevice until I want to change the hoof stuff. I find I can brush or scrape over the top of it without dislodging it if I'm careful? Usually I'm using it in the central sulcus so can still pick down the sides of the frog but if I had it there as well I would just use a brush or even a squirt with the hose to take mud off the rest of the foot.

When I put hoof stuff in and I only use it in the central sulcus I tend to leave it there for about a week or until it falls out then I will throughly clean and put more in its really got on top of a long standing thrush problem
