Help. My horses feet are rubbish. All the hoof supplements adverts say the product works miracles. Which do I buy, one is bound to be he best & I bet you all know which one. Please help, desperate.:(

It's not a specific hoof supplement, but I've seen great improvements to P's feet whilst on Progressive Earth's Pro Balance + supplement.

I believe they do a hoof specific supplement too.

Thanks. I will google that one. Anyone else ?

I've been using the Forageplus supplements (started off with the Performance Balancer, switched to the Winter Balancer, used the Summer one until now, and am about to make up my own based on results of forage analysis). I had been using the eBay ProBalance before using the Forageplus, but although it improved things, we seemed to need a bit more oomph.

The Forageplus has been nothing short of amazing. After years of having hooves that were OK but nothing special, horse is now stomping over everything, cracks and thrush have healed up, changes in grass don't seem to affect him and I am a happy owner :)

So I would suggest trying the ProBalance - if you don't see an improvement, try the (rather more expensive) Forageplus for a while. (BTW, when I say a bit more expensive, it still works out cheaper than e.g. Formula4Feet or Farrier's Formula, both of which would be disastrous with our grazing mineral levels...).

Another vote for Forage Plus!! After suffering abcesses on and off and stretched white lines, we,...(fingers crossed) have now been abcess free since Sept 2012 and our white lines are mega tight!! and it's just GOT to be down to the bespoke mineral/supplement plan that was devised for my horse!

I've just today received my 'winter' supplements from FP, so i'm all stocked up and ready to go!

My mare usually has fantastic hooves but she went through a crumbly period after the removal of her shoes. Her hooves were literally falling to bits, put her on to NAF profeet for 40 days (one big tub) and they got back to normal pretty fast and she has brilliant feet again now.

forage plus winter hoof health balancer has been a godsend for me, but then my horse's hooves were in a very bad state with abscesses. I *think* progressive earths is a little cheaper but isn't as high in certain minerals but is still very good.

I think I've tried all the hoof supplements under the sun! Biotin by itself, rubbish. NAF pro feet, did nothing. Farriers Formula, he wouldn't eat it. Formula 4 Feet, did make a difference and his feet improved quite a bit. Then after years he decided he didn't like it any more. I now feed him Pro Hoof from Progressive Earth on Ebay - flaming miracles have occured. Even my farrier's impressed, and he's of the opinion that all hoof supplements are tosh. For background info - he's a TB with flat thin soled feet, which aren't particularly flat or thin soled any more thanks to the pro hoof. He's been on it 4 months so far along side a low starch, low sugar, no cereals diet (which he always got, but diet is a major factor) and I really can't rate it enough!

We're the same a year this month abscess free thanks to forage plus.

I like the sound of this Progressive Earth Pro feet & will look into it. Everybody seems to get mixed results but I must do something.

I feed Formula 4 Feet.

I tried pro-hoof but am using it on a young very metabolic horse, on restricted rations, and he refused point blank to eat it in his meagre speedibeet/chaff ration.

Hoof First - ruddy amazing. Had probs with contracted tendons which resulted in very soft hooves that didnt grow properly.. have to say remedial farrier was AMAZING and saved her bacon but definitely think supplement did a lot too - went from this

Since I have taken her off it I have noticed her hooves aren't as good as they were so she is going back on it :)

Good luck

Forage plus for me, barefoot pony had crumbly hooves and white line separation, No more, thick creamy lovely white line and hard hooves, have just finished the summer hoof minerals and now going onto the winter one.

Unlike some of the others it contains proper amounts of copper which altho you have to be careful with intake, many horses are deficient in, and isn't full of iron which UK horses already have plenty of!

Not a supplement - but NAF Hoof Rub is excellent! Noticed difference straight away and only need to apply once a week and hooves maintain the correct moisture level all week - which in turn produces better hoof horn growth. :)

Pro feet was recommended to me but none of my starving gannets will touch their food when it is in it. As it was so expensive I am insisting they eat it but it will last forever as they only have a quarter of the daily recommended dose. So, if your horse isn't fussy go for it!

Feedmark Hardy Hoof - tried them all and this is the only one for my cob.
Just got 40% off the price at HOYS - 20Kg for £65ish

I suspect the wide variation in recommendations is because what works best for people is the one that best interacts/ suppliments the missing minerals from peoples grazing which varies across the country.
Probably a case of trial and error to find one that works best with your grazing and your horses needs.

Mine do really well on formula4 feet - bought in big sacks from gwtitmus it's not too expensive and it's also a broad allround suppliment
But I put a horse on loan only 10 miles away and his feet have gone rubbish even on the same suppliment so his now owner is experimenting with alternatives.

Formula 4 feet. Wish I'd found it years ago.
Tried the Equimins and the Pro Hoof from ebay amongst others with disappointing results.

Formula 4 Feet has been the best. Even my IR and metabolic syndrome horse has hooves like rock and tight white lines.

Agree with Polo's Mum, finding the right product depends on the horse and grazing.
