My horse has been on/off lame recently, only minorly. He's not got hot legs or hooves and I can't see any reason for him to be lame. He's going to be checked by a physio soon..but when checking him over, I've noticed that his hooves are becoming increasingly cracked round the edges. Picking up his feet, I've noticed that one frog looks a bit scrappy and torn, on the other foot, it's better, except his cleft of frog looks ever so slightly swollen (might just be because the other one is worn so it just looks swollen to me!) anyone have any ideas what it could be, or can you recommend good hoof suppliments that will help the cracking/the frog issue.

p.s. he was shod relatively recently (always been shod), I don't think the frog issue was apparent at that time.

Well the flaky hoof is linked to the diet, either too much of something or too little.

The frog sounds like either a bruise or could be thrush... does it smell like thrush?

The frog could well be a thrush issue, it does smell a bit. He's getting minerals in his feed, so I will have to look into the cracking. Thank you!
