So, I think my little mare is going to be going barefoot. She has front feet problems and it is that or pads, and I think I would rather give barefoot a go!

She is going to need hoof boots, at least at first I think. She isn't sore when she loses a shoe but I took her shoes off once before and she got a bit sore when hacking. How does one go about finding the right sort for a horse?

She is a welsh D, so has quite round feet.

Also what do people use for pads inside hoof boots? which are the best ones?

Any information much appreciated!!

This is her feet, or at least it was her feet last time her shoes were off:

I used to use renegade hoof boots on my boy (similar to easyboot epics) but found that style kept coming off, so recently splashed out on old mac g2's, they are fantastic and with the free gaitors there is no rubbing. We did a 10 mile sponsored ride with galloping and jumping on sunday and they didn't move, cannot recommend highly enough :-)

I bought cavallo simples for my girl when her shoes came off and they are great first boots. They are excellent for transitioning too as you can put pads inside. Easy to use and economical too. I might look at something more high tech if we need boots long term but wouldn't until she has grown a whole new foor.

I boot Cavallo simples - so easy to use. Mine's a D too and they suited his feet really well

My previous horse had round feet and found Easyboot Epics really good. Never twisted/slipped even after 10miles plus of off-road tracks with bogs, streams, the lot!

I have the cavello sports and love them. It took a few goes for me to get used to putting them on but she took to them really quickly. I always use the pastern wraps with them as they did rub slightly but she does have very sensitive skin

Thank you everyone!!

LF that is really useful - thank you!

Looks like G2s keep cropping up as most suitable, and Easycare Trails were recommended as being very similar, anyone any experience of the trails?

I use the easy boot trails. They are great for round feet and a good started boot as they are easy to put on and take off. I rode in some quite horrid mud on Wednesday and they didn't come off! I use the black medium density 12mm pads cut to size on my boots

My head hurts trying to find boots for my TB with wider than long hooves and odd size feet to boot (ha!). Emailed a few places so fingers crossed! Any recommends welcome (sorry to hijack C1)

Easyboot Glove Wide. The company has come out with the 'glove' and the 'trail' boot in wide sizes. I have a tb with the same problem! Measured her hooves and they fell perfectly into the 'wide' sizing. Got my boots in the mail today, will be taking them out to try on this afternoon!

ps: I am in Canada, but you Brits usually have all the cool new stuff before we do ;)

Ooh thanks, I knew the easyboot glove came in a wide, didn't know the trails did!! Ordered the gloves but not sure I'll get them on...
