I regularly used to bring our pony home to graze in the garden but it was an army quarter so husband wasn’t as precious over his lawn as he is in our our own home now.

The worse time was when I woke to a soldier saying your horse has got out and is on the regiment’s cricket pitch ?

Years ago , amongst others , I had a big gypsy cob mare and a shetland. I went to feed them and they went there!! Question a bit of a panic when 10 mins later they both stroll back into the paddock through the hedge! Phew! A lady several doors down had dreamt she had heard horses in her garden and when she got up and went outside there were hoof prints all over her rockery! Luckily she was horsey. So the girls had had a wonderful time exploring!

Slightly different experience here. Our last house had a steep back garden, behind which was open countryside. Cattle grazed in the field behind our house. The road in front of our house was quite a busy one and as our children were young at the time, we had installed wrought iron gates across our driveway. One morning we woke up to find cattle happily munching on our lawn. A quick call to the police resulted in us being told the cattle had apparently escaped during the night and the police had come out to deal with the matter and as ours was the only house with suitable gates, they had put the cattle into our garden for safety, until their owner could be found. Needless to say, the cattle had made a dreadful mess of our garden, not only with divots, but with poo. Husband was not a happy man.

P untied himself and shot through the gate onto the beautiful green fertilised lawn. We couldn’t catch him! Even pony nuts were not enough to distract him from the lush grass ? luckily everyone found it funny!

Ive installed gates in both the paddock fences next to my house. I cant imagine why anyone wouldn't use their horses to mow the lawn!

Same here . All our grassy ( but not paddock ) areas around the place are kept trim by the ponies and the back garden has never been mown . Is that not what shetlands were specifically bred for ?

Ha ha good to see I'm not alone. They've been busted but if I had my way, I'd let them in the garden every day! Good fertilizer and aerating the lawn too...
