Can a horse lorry expert please help!!!
I’m plugging my hook up cable into my lorry ( it is in as far as it can go on both sides I am positive!) but nothing is happening! No power is getting to the box I.e the sockets and cooker not working?
Other people on the yard use the connection bit and theirs works, have tried someone else’s cable in my lorry but no luck..

If your leisure battery is completely dead, it may not be able to recharge.....

And/or your on board charger may have died.

Or possibly a fuse or connection has gone...have you checked the leisure fuse board?

This will be stupid question of the century but I’m new to the full living/hook up thing
But does your hook up charge up the leisure battery or does it just put power through the lorry for sockets etc?

It depends.....but normally the living equipment works off a 12V (or sometimes 24V) .... eg the water pump....this will take its power from the battery .

The fridge often has a 12 or 240V switch, so can work from both.

Unfortunately all manufacturers have their own wiring arrangements, so it may be worth trying to ask the company who built it......or do you have any of the original equipment manuals to help?

There is a manual, a large one at that… I’ll have a flick through that tomorrow and see if I can find anything in that.
Thank you! So hard to find anything online

Sorry another stupid lorry question.... Should I leave my lorry hooked up 24/7 or only when needing to use sockets etc? There is no way to divide the cost of having a lorry hooked up between the other people on the yard so it is just split so I would be paying for the full month even if only hooked up for a day or 2 so in that way it makes more sense. Just wondering if there is any benefits to always having it hooked up?

I have an 04 plate DAF, and its computers keep background activity going, so the lorry batteries would go flat in about 10 days or so if not used....my leisure batterries are separate.

The on-board charger charges both sets of batteries.

I leave mine plugged in the whole time, but on a time clock, so it puts power in on cheaper rate overnight.....this keeps batteries nicely topped up. (I'm lucky to have it at home)

If batteries go too flat, it can ruin them.....most trucks are designed to be used (hard) 5-7 days a week...all the sitting around horseboxes do isn't good for them!

Perfect thank you!!

Not a DAF but a 7.5 tonne old lorry - we have solar panel in the window ticking over the leisure batteries. Lorry batteries are separate and must admit over winter it can go more than a month without starting. Might be worth looking at solar panels.

You could do with checking if you have 'normal' batteries or LiFePO4 (Lithium) batteries. as your leisure batteries. LiFePO4 batteries need to be treated differently - they prefer to sit at 50% charge if not being used apparently.

Another stupid question, how do I go about finding out what batteries they are.....
