i am looking at a show in a few weeks at arena uk (it would be my first overnight show) and was wondering if anyone could explain to me what a 'hook up' is? i was looking on the website and there is temporary stables and 'hook ups' but am not sure what to go for?

You will want both. The temporary stable will be for your horse and the hook up is a power supply for your lorry.

Hook up is no good if you're in a tent or sleeping in the trailer. We're not all lucky enough to have lorries :p

This, but I did not initially use a hook up when I was away as my lorry was not equipped to take one! It is easy enough to sort one though, from a DIY shop. It is (or was) usually the outdoor round plug ins.

For overnight I could get away with no electric, it is dark late and light early, and for 1 night I can manage with no hairdrier.

Of course, that's just common sense. But it seems the OP thought a hook up was for the horse. Maybe a tie ring for the horse overnight, which it isn't.

Never used hook up yet at shows in the lorry. Leisure battery lasts for ages for lights/phone charging, fridge and cooker run off gas. Hook up is usually expensive!

As others have said before...if you are taking a horse to the show then you will need a temporary stable for the horse to reside in overnight... dependant on the organisers you may need to take wood shavings with you and certainly hay for the horse overnight...
You will be expected to clear the stable prior to leaving the event and leave it clean so you will also need to take forks, brushes and possibly a wheelbarrow with you to help clear it out!

Re the plug in this is purely an electric supply via an extension lead using round blue connectors... you will need to take your own extension lead... paying the extra will only allow you access to a power socket...
It is especially useful if you have a lorry as it allows you to run equipment such as fridges and aircon units water heaters etc using main electricity...you can buy this type of extension lead in Halfords...

Hope this helps and you enjoy your first event!
