I took Leah to her first ever fun dog show today. We entered "Most Appealing Eyes", "Best Crossbreed", "Best Veteran" and "Best Rescue". And we won a rosette! Third place in Best Veteran!
I know some people would be disappointed coming away with just one, 3rd place, rosette, but I'm thrilled. Leah's never even been to a show before, let alone won anything, and I'm so proud of her.
She's always been such a nervous dog (thanks to the *&?*!*$#s who abused her when she was a puppy), so to see her behave so well was brilliant. She whined and cowered a little bit when we first arrived, but once she'd settled down she had her ears pricked up, sniffing the other dogs and trying to eat people's ice creams and generally being a wonderful pain in the bum.
She was really good in the ring - although she was more interested in the spectators than the judge, meaning that most of the judge's inspection consisted of bum and tail - she didn't annoy the other dogs and she listened to me almost all the time.
It was a very long day for her, and quite stressful (she never lies down to fully relax in strange environments) so towards the end of the day she was getting really tired and just as she started to relax, another dog started barking and made her jump, which she responded to by leaping up and snarling at the nearest scary-looking dog. This was horribly embarassing, especially as I've never even seen her show her teeth to anyone before, so we decided she was definitely too tired and stressed and took her home.
Pictures will be up later of Leah and her lovely yellow 3rd place rosette. I am so proud of my baby girl!
