I have been accepted for Monty's help on Sunday at Solihull Riding Club, in Solihull. They may be using him for the demo in the evening performance, he is one of eight horses being used that day. I've posted on here before about the loading problems I have been having with him, ever since he saw some pigs at a show centre last year.

I am so excited about meeting the great man, and of course Kelly Marks. They may also do something with Bailey's spookiness as he is a very spooky horse. He will learn some lessons on Sunday that's for sure! He is a little bargy with me, as he knows he can use his strength against me as I have a slipped disc! Monty will soon put him right!

Oh I am so excited I can hardly sit still. What to wear, oh cripes! Have no decent coat!

How exciting for you, and how lovely of Kelly to respond to you directly. It's a great show, I've seen it twice and learned loads (and from the books!).

Thank you Kelly for your lovely reply. And thank you everyone on this forum for all your support, not just now, but over the months that I have had this loading problem. You have all been a great help, each and every suggestion has been thought about in depth, and many have been tried and failed. I am so desperate to help my horse and rid him forever of the idea that there are little piglets hiding in the trailer waiting to jump out and chew his hooves!.......goodness knows how they get these crazy thoughts!!

I am sooooo looking forward to Sunday. Knowing how stubborn and cantankerous Bailey is he will probably leap on first time!! lol

Good luck and please report back.

My friend's mare was used in a loading demo, she was so bad that she had to hack her to the demo. She has loaded fine ever since the demo.

I had Linda Ruffle who trained with MR & Kelly out to help me with knobberpony's leading issues well over a year ago and we've never had a problem since.:)

Oh wow! Oh and can you please confirm that when he says "iv only met this horse 10mins ago never worked with him in my life' is that ACTUALLY true!?

Exciting stuff I love Mr Roberts!

Yes Serena that bit is true, one of mine was at a demo last yr, Monty & Kelly will actually visually see the horse/pony from 10/20ft away when they assess them in the afternoon but I can guarantee neither of them actually meet hands on until they are presented with them in the round pen in the evening.

They are stabled at the venue, brought out into the round pen by the owner in the afternoon, worked for literally a few mins by Montys sidekick just so they can see what they are dealing with and out of the pen, run over by the physio and then back in the stable until the evening when they come straight out and back out with Monty.

I pretty much spent the day with my lad as he was a tad stressy, no-one went near him in the stable block aside from me.

This is very true. My boy was used last year for the 'Start-up' and chosen for the evening demo. Monty has no contact with the horse and literally sat with me for 5 mins whilst his handler had him in the round pen. From that Monty made his decisions on which horse to use. Luckily he picked my boy.

Wear something warm! Last year at Bury Farm it was -7 so most of us wore our horse rugs ;)

awww my mare was used in one of his shows at myerscough college for a loading demo a couple of years ago, it was an amazing day i learnt soooooo much and ive had an amazing partnership with my horse on the ground ever since . my dually is my best friend!!

Fab! I'm sure you'll have a great time.

I've been to a few of these, and the last couple of times took a sleeping bag to sit in! I was glad of it too, and of my flask of tea. :)

Applecart14 - this is really fab news, hope you have a great day and learn loads, i too will be waiting a full report back.

I was hoping to go myself, but am skint until payday, and i doubt there will be any tickets left by Friday :o

Oooooooooo that's brilliant !! Is it possible to get someone to video things for you, and then post it here ? I find Monty and Kelly fascinating, and would love to see what happens. x

If only I was close enough to get there and help out....

Owners whose horses are chosen are allowed to video their own horses, and Monty has an official cameraman filming all the horse work so they can have a chat with him about getting good quality footage if they want it.
See you there - I'll be the one with my baby strapped to my front!

Hi Sue. Really? That's interesting. I will take my camera and video some of it, it will be lovely to see Monty with him, bah I can hardly wait, Sunday is such a long way off!

I told my Bailey last night Mr Roberts was going to see to it that he behaved himself and he just scoffed and looked bemused! I think he will be in for a shock when he has some one who knows what they are doing deal with him, bless him. He has a lovely temperment, wouldn't hurt a fly, when he walks past a new horse in their stable he practically launches his head over their door to greet them, ears forward, never nasty, ready to see who is the new boy/girl on the block, that's the type he is. Lead him up to the walker and all the others pull faces as they go past, and he will stand there for hours ears forward, trying to engage, and looking in suprise as he is clearly thinking " haven't I seen you somewhere before?" as they go past him for the 50th time! :D:D

OMG my partner who works at Solihull Riding Club (with dog in my siggy) says there are 800 people attending! I thought he was winding me up, but a quick call to SRC to enquire about something else has revealed that this figure may well be correct.:eek:

If Bails does get used for the demo and he poos on my foot or treads on my toe (or worse still Monty's!) I shall just die..... but I will forgive him :) :o :o

That sounds about right, I went to see Monty & Kelly in October at Ingliston EC and bought tickets on the day that were numbered in the 800s! :D
Hope you have a great time and learn lots :)
