Bud has been barefoot behind for 3 years now, had his fronts taken off in December when he wasn't being ridden due to getting the hay stuck up his nose :-/ kept them off as farrier has said he hasn't seen his feet looking so good (he's been buds farrier for 9 years), and there's no point having them on if he doesn't need them.
Anyway long story short, feet were still looking perfect as though they had just been trimmed until Sunday. 1 front has just chipped and cracked and looks brittle. Farrier coming at 4 tomorrow for 6 weekly trim, brought him in for his fast fibre tonight to give him a groom and then put back out (out 24:7 now). His off fore has now chipped. Backs still looking great. I know farrier will sort it tomorrow even if it's to put shoes back on front. But is there anything I can put on them? His diet is pretty good, but I imagine its because grounds now dry and he's out full time in grass. Was looking at hoof hardener, but then if they're brittle won't this make it worse? Saw some hoof moisturiser as well, but I don't want to spend £45 on some potion that doesn't work? Please don't suggest micronised linseed, I ended up with him jumping out the school with me on him when I had him on it. It sends him loopy! He's fed fast fibre, equivit, glucosamine and garlic in tablet form (garlic is the only thing that helps with copd for him). Is biotin or formula for feet any good? I don't really want to just mask it with shoes, as if they're not right he'll just cast them anyway. Any suggestions?
