My lovely old doll passed over the bridge last night.

At 2 years old I was her 4th home & I got her at probably one of the lowest points of my life and PTSD recovery. She went everywhere with me & has been through it all with our family over the last 13 years.

She loved my kids fiercely, she hated labs with a vengeance (no idea why!) and anyone wearing hi-viz. Her biggest nemesis was the postie, who much to her disgust never batted and eyelid at her.

Old age crept up it feels like out of nowhere, deafness, some sight issues but she was still sprightly and game as anything. Yesterday evening she had her dinner, went for a potter round the garden, came back inside and then her legs just went from under her. We managed to get her back up but she was very wobbly and obviously frightened/confused she managed to gather herself and took off across the kitchen banging into the island and the door before collapsing again. Needless to say we rushed her straight to our local vet. I had pretty much already decided on the way in that I wouldn't put her through anything. It was very quickly established there was something neurological going on. She slipped away very quickly and very peacefully. I know it's a privilege to be able to put an end to any pain or suffering but god it's painful.

So very sorry to hear this. One of mine was 13, went for a walk as usual, came back had her tea then started fitting. She didn't come out of it and we rushed her to the vet. Rectal diazepam didn't work and we were told it was neurological, nothing to be done and she was put down. It was the shock of losing her so suddenly that was so hard to take. You have all my sympathy, take care of yourself.

So sorry but at least it was quick for her, not so good for you though. Similar happened to my collie she went for her little 20 mins stroll in the morning and was the same as usual , she was old losing hearing and sight but still seemed happy but didn’t eat breakfast , it was a hot day so I didn’t really worry then in the evening she didn’t want to get up for her tea and I realised she couldn’t , her back legs had gone.. it is such a shock so look after yourself , I know it took me a long time

I'm so sorry you lost her but what a lucky girlie she was to have found her people and have had a good life. You were there for her at the end and she was loved. She had everything she needed. I hope you are ok, they leave such a gap behind xx
