My lovely old doll passed over the bridge last night.
At 2 years old I was her 4th home & I got her at probably one of the lowest points of my life and PTSD recovery. She went everywhere with me & has been through it all with our family over the last 13 years.
She loved my kids fiercely, she hated labs with a vengeance (no idea why!) and anyone wearing hi-viz. Her biggest nemesis was the postie, who much to her disgust never batted and eyelid at her.
Old age crept up it feels like out of nowhere, deafness, some sight issues but she was still sprightly and game as anything. Yesterday evening she had her dinner, went for a potter round the garden, came back inside and then her legs just went from under her. We managed to get her back up but she was very wobbly and obviously frightened/confused she managed to gather herself and took off across the kitchen banging into the island and the door before collapsing again. Needless to say we rushed her straight to our local vet. I had pretty much already decided on the way in that I wouldn't put her through anything. It was very quickly established there was something neurological going on. She slipped away very quickly and very peacefully. I know it's a privilege to be able to put an end to any pain or suffering but god it's painful.
