Hi everyone,

Just wondering, in Gloucestershire (although any area appreciated as it won't vary that dramatically I'd hope!) how much a week would you expect to pay for backing livery? And what would you be expecting for that price?

Would really appreciate answers!

£120-200 per week, for that it would be full livery although may live out it should cover all daily care, feed etc.
The horse should be worked with 6 days a week in some way, I sometimes do them twice a day then give them a few days off, it should depend on the individual.
How long will depend on where the owner wants it to be when it goes home, most are 4- 6 weeks if some ground work is done.

I'd expect around the £100 a week mark if living out 24/7 on minimal extra feed, or around £140-180 a week if stabled.
Worked 5/6 days

I was quoted £80 per week - living out.
At another place I know its around the £100 mark.

I'd expect my horse to be worked at least 4-5 days a week.
I don't want my horse brought on too much, so as long as she's steering, walking and trotting.

She'll live out with absolutely anyone, doesnt need any real bedding if on rubber mats, she's on no feed.

It'd literally just be to get her to a point of walk and a little trot. So over the summer we can hack in walk, then next winter she'll be turned away, then backed 'properly' before the summer with walk/trot/canter etc.

For the cobs, we do standard rate of £250 all inclusive. But, the cobs are pretty standard and easy to do so can't validate charging more!

I charge £122.00 a week for backing livery and would expect to have them 4/6 weeks normally. All my horses are in at night, out during the day. They are fed a basic feed once a day, kept on good quality shavings and feed good hay or haylage. I believe that a good routine and quiet consistant handling is the key to procuding a well rounded, happy youngster. We have grass gallop tracks and floodlit school so I like to get them having a wander around gallops, building their confidence before they go home :) Located in West Sussex. Feel free to email should I be in a suitable location/ what your looking for. sam.boseley@yahoo.co.uk

Good luck with your youngster x
