Ok bit worrying...the big lad has been off his food so not getting his meds properly... He also has a very swollen sheath (it is about twice the size of a grapefruit) He has other swellings under his chest and belly. The vet has been up and these are the possible cause of the swellings..

lack of protien in the blood causes these types of sweling and the causes are.

His kidneys or liver not working properly.. not good re amount of drugs he is on.....

Infection sometimes the cause... not ideal but better than the above option....

Starvation... ie him being on such a reduces diet and then him going off what he is on....

He is still drinking well.. his pain levels have gone up as he is on far less meds as he wont eat.. Just him getting rid of any hairs I had that were not already white!!!!!

Poor thing, hope he is ok, sounds like he is having a reaction to the drugs, is he turned out? one of ours had a swollen sheath when we had to keep him in for a time, as soon as he was turned out it went.

Sadly not that easy he has had a huge laminitic response to something...sorry I should have said... That is why he is on so many meds.

.. can the pain killers not be injected?

Ah rubbish,

given the situation I would suggest that the third option (starvation) might be the most likely but not sure how you then deal with that if it is.

Hi,
my coloured had those type of haematomas (Sp?) and the vet suggested epsom salts?

It caused by them not moving about so much with the lami, being the lowest point all the blood gathers
