I am hoping that, this autumn, I will be (at the yard I am starting to work at) going hunting with some of the horses there (obviously 1 at a time  )

Just a couple of questions: if I go hunting, what are the main do's and don't etc? (I will be with the YO who is regular at the hunt etc so will just be sticking with her)

Also, how do you present yourself as a rider? (I normally do show hunter showing...... is it similar turn out?!)

Thanks!

im not shaw (SP???) if its similar to show hunter but you wear a hacking jacket/black coat, cream/beige johdpurs and then brown/black boots/half chaps... most adults wear boots but its not cumpolsary. if you ahve a ribbon on your hat cut the tails off.. its just a thing everyone does :)
dos:
be polite to cars on roads- say thank you etc. etc.
be alert to other people around you- if theres a young horse or a kicker give it plenty of room
always shut gates- generalyl there are gate shutters ubt if for some reason you get left behind/go a different way shut it as it was- good idea to carry some string, but if your with YO you will be ok :)

donts:
DO NOT at any time pass the field master unless completley out of control or are asked to do so... as in ive been aked to lead the hunt over jumps before- thats fine to be infront of them but not just cantering past them.
dont kick a hound- face your horses head at the hounds to avoid this.
dont let livlestock out of fields, and if you do, put them back in!!
do not cross infront of someone when they are jumping, get in the line! and do not cross infront of people jumping if your not jumping but going through a gate.
erm... will probably think of some more :)

ok so the don'ts are just general manners...... can do that!
I will be on relatively young horses myself I think so I will be just aiming to keep them chilled and enjoying themselves (safely obv)
im rather excited about it!

What hunt will you be going with? Also you put you will be hunting young horses, then put a green ribbon in its tail, means young inexperienced horse. Easier than tieing green ribbon, we use some green electritians tape wrapped round top of tail.

Theres some pictures on my FB from the Quorn Lucy & a Facebook group with lots of photos on for clues on turnout.
