Does anyone else’s pony/horse hop?

When trotting my pony decides to hop - i cant really explain it,..you have to see it,..its like changing legs,...not a 'im in pan' kinda hop?

Any ideas as to why this is?

Shes done it ever since ive had her, on and off. She was fully checked over since she came and had the back lady for a bit,..if that helps!!

Advice much appreciated
Thanks

Yep, mine does this! It's when she's not going forward enough, and struggling to get a rhythm established.

She was a lot worse until I got her saddle restuffed, and we've been hop-free the last few days... Might be worth getting it checked? My RI says to send her forward when she does it, and I've found that having a canter does round tends to loosen her up and then her trot is a lot more forward and free.

Yay! Someone who knows what im talking about!

I was watching her being ridden yesterday at it seemed to be when she'd had enough.

Shes been going through some very odd phases - one minuet she will be zipping round the school at a bolt, then next wont walk on and will be very stubborn! - It differs between riders - so im putting it down to her being cheeky!

Thanks for the comment!

I used to ride a mare that did that when she got bored schooling... she'd fake being lame to try and get out of working!!!! She miraculously recovered if you told her off or pointed her towards a jump tho!!!

She had been lame in the past and must have figured that if you limp you dont have to do any work!!!! She was given the medical all clear etc etc

Very clever that little mare.....

Mine does it sometimes, in my case it's a slight evasion and not always truely working forwards into the contact combined with weakness from an old injury. Might be worth checking all avenues though to make sure the horse isn't in any discomfort.

Sorry wasn’t able to get on here last night after my quick lunch break at work!

- Nope, doesn’t do it out hacking, which makes me think its an 'im not going to work in the school because its boring and i can get away with it with these little kids' thing..

- its quite annoying when you try and ride her.. she can go through very different moods in a very short space of time

We’ve started to re-jump her and school at the same time as she’s starting to get borded of just schooling and using it as an excuse to bum around!

Feed back was much appreciated!

Thanks!

<<<She had been lame in the past and must have figured that if you limp you dont have to do any work!>>>

i had a dog like that, she was run over and hurt her leg and for months after if she thought she wasnt getting enough attention she'd limp past pathetically, thing was she either could never remember which leg it was supposed to be or thought it didnt matter which as long as it drew attention to her
