Hormones or anxiety?

Rescued pony when at 8 months old.
Hardly touched, ill treated.
Kept at 8 same yard for 8 years
Kept in large group of mares.
Geldings separate.
Very cheeky but lovely mare.
Handley daily by adult with no issues with children sharing her, doing pony club etc.

2011 She had liver problems.
Had time off and treatment.
January 2012 she went away on loan.
stable in garden, one other mare as company.
Had final full blood test, all clear.
Took time to settle in, napped to friend, wouldnt load atc
Settled then gelding moved in next door, went through same issues.
Settled again them another little gelding joins them. Same issues.
Can be grumpy, touchy and mareish, think there may be a pattern to coincide with seasons. Continued seasons through winter.

So hormones or separation?
Going to check last bloods to see if it gives any hints.
Probably take a new set to compare.

Vet suggests scan of ovaries and maybe marble.
 
Do you have any idea of the breeding? My current Appy mare comes into season all through the year, as she has a lot of Tb and Arab in her bloodlines. It doesn't cause us too much problem, but it is noticable that she is in season when the others (coldblooded types) are not. (squealing at next doors geldings yesterday :p)
 
I think maybe a combo of both - sorry I know that's not particularly helpful. Have you tried a supplement like stroppy mare or the like? If it helps her it might indicate its hormonal........keep a diary of her seasons too if a pattern emerges again likely to be hormonal.
 
Shes sounds as though she may be insecure at the new home. Has anything else changed, diet, exercise and especially competence of handling? Could be hormonal but as its happened with a change of home I would think more likely to be something environment related. I think ponies with a rescue background become very attached and dependent on their handlers.

I think it is the change if home.
Although she has been there almost a year now.
But I know it can take a long time to settle
They didn't rush her or ask too much to soon.
Going from a large herd to a small one could make her insecure when one leave or she leaves them.
