Horrendous story in Daily Mail!

I have always been with mine too , but I know lots of people don't , I always do it at home as well .

Awful, just awful. Yes OK so its horrible having to take anything to the vets for a PTS job, but surely we owe it to our much loved friends to give them that last five minutes of their lives???

I've always stayed with mine right to the end; wouldn't ever think about just leaving them there.

This completely.

you cannot judge people for how they behave at such a difficult time, you may be able to hold it together and stay with them but other people may not feel able to do that.
I honestly don't think it is always in the best interest to have owners there if they are upset/scared and emotional, the animals (especially dogs) pick up on this and it can make their last moments very fearful.
Often I think it is in the animals best interest to be handed over to someone emotionally unconnected to the animal who is not scared of what is going to happen, I know that when my dogs go I may not feel able to be there in their final moments and I will hand them over to people that I trust to treat them calmly and with respect and give them a dignified end.
