one of the girls that works on our yard went down to bring 2 mares in to find on pumping blood out of its hind leg, after making a makeshift tornoquet (sp) they got her back up to the yard where staff kept the artery held till the vet arrived who managed to stop the bleeding and get her stitched up, shes feeling very sorry for herself today and they cant get antibiotics into her

shes off all food and hay, trying to find a way to get them into without jabbing as she doesnt cope with it well??? any suggestions?

its made me think about my insurance for my boys and i have rang them to include death now

send lots of hugs to rosie xx

You can get antibiotics in a paste form in syringes, I can't get my mare to eat anything like that or bute so she has them all in a paste. Not a paste made by me, your vet can get them, Norodine and Trimedazine (sp) both come in a syringe form.
I hope she is better soon, lucky they went to get her in when they did

the vet can put an iv shunt in her neck so you can administer through it without needing to inject every time. There are only a few types of anti b's that can be administered directly into the blood stream though so its possible if she needs a specific type this wont be possible.

Can your Vet give you the anti-biotics in pill form? (Tri-tabs?) I have them and just dissolve them in a bit of water and syringe them in.

marmite hides the taste of anything horrible stuff but have never know a pony not eat it, make a marmite tea (3 tsp in a mug of water and then mix it into the feed) with the antibiotics make sure you have loades of chaff bulk as it is very powdery if needs be split it between 2 smaller feeds
