My friend Kate who owns the horses I ride, did a favour for a friend today, she offered to have their two horses while their fields were being sprayed. The horses arrived and went out in the field next to the other horses. My friend has two goats and 4 sheep (plus Louis) All the fields are post and rails so the goats and sheep just wander where they like, the one horse saw the goats and sheep when they wandered through and went after them, he grabbed the one goat on the back and threw her up in the air, then stamped on her, then picked her up and threw her again before stamping on her again, he broke five ribs and two legs

Nellie had to be put down, while trying to protect the goat and get help to grab the horses, he went after one of the sheep who tried to get under the fence, he grabbed it by the leg and pulled it back but someone threw a stone at the horse as well as screaming at him he let the sheep go who ran off (thankfully she was allright), never known a horse do this before it was horrible

RIP Nellie, one of the sweetest pets xxx

How awful for her. RIP Nellie. I have seen horses chase dogs and pull some evil faces at them but never heard of one attacking anything like that!

I've never heard of a horses going for something that size, my friends section C stallion did pulverise a chicken that came under his door when he was staying away for schooling though

My shetland pony killed one of the yard owners sheep. He saw it do it. By the time I got there from work the sheep was already dead. I went around the corner and there in the middle of the field was my pony with the dead sheep's leg in his mouth. It was absolutely horrific. I sold him after that as soon as I could and warned the new owners.

He went on to be a lovely kids pony apparently but I never looked at him the same again.

I don't know the horse personally, Owners never said he has done anything like this before, he is a bit of a bugger to handle, walk over you than round you etc

Merlin will chase sheep and did bowl a couple over..... he also snakes his head and looks like he will bite them, but we never found any injured or dead ones when he was sharing the grazing with them.

It certainly was a good excuse not to have them in the field though!!!!

We have always been careful if introducing new horses to our lot to keep the sheep out of the way, but where they can be seen. We only have the one sheep at the moment and the new girl was a bit phased by her to start with and kept a close eye on her for the first couple of hours they were in together. I think the new mare thought that the sheep may explode if not watched lol

OMG, poor little nellie

I have never heard of that!! Maybe the horse didnt know what they were?? Ive seen agressive geldings really go for a weaker gelding, some do still have stallion instincts maybe it was something to do with that and he was trying to protect the place from the goats and sheep?
Saying that though my old boy used to have a chicken live in his stable and he loved it was very gentle. He also used to have a cat that slept on his back and on the stable door and he was very gentle with that too. We have a lot of pheasants at our yard as well, they wander into the stallion paddocks. Sometimes the stallions chase them out of the fields but ive never seen them attack one.
I'd be carefull with that horse especially with small children. (im sure he wouldnt hurt a child but i'd still be worried!!)
