So we have CCTV at our small private yard. It's linked to my phone and it keep an eye on it now and then whilst working.
So I've been watching it just now and two people, male and female, strolled onto my yard and started looking around !!!!!!!
Normally the guy next door is always there for me to call if I have any concerns and he pops in for me. But typically he's away!

The yard is only a ten min drive from work if needs be, but if I had left. By the time I'd have got there they would have gone.

I felt so helpless and violated just watching these people nose around my yard!!!

I wanted a tanoy (sp) system so I could shout and the them to eff off! Which has got me thinking... Does anyone know of some sort of alarm system I could instal that I can activate via my phone ?

Apologies for the bad grammar and spelling. I'm on my phone.
Also apologies for all the exclamation marks !!

Oh I see, naughty. My brother used to work at a place that had a sensor thing, basically a voice would say "You have just triggered the alarm system, and your activities are being recorded" Nothing was recorded but it was enough to scare people off. Not sure if the horses might set it off though, foxes used to set it off :)

Put up CCTV signs? Actually, legally, you are obliged to do this anyway if you have CCTV.

Look on the plus side. Maybe they have horses and are looking for a nice private livery yard - it might not actually be a malicious / illegal reason. By illegal I mean thieving or damage - of course they shouldn't be doing it.

Did they just leave?

Ridefast that sounds like exactly what I need!!
Abacus, we have signs but the camera isn't visible on the yard. It's actually our neighbours CCTV and he has a camera pointed onto the yard for us. I just downloaded the app to view from my phone. So I think people must think the signs are dummies.

They did just leave empty handed and walked off down the lane but I worry they will come back!!

Your quite right though, they could just be looking for livery, but it's unnerving when your sitting at work helpless!

Pop a note on the gate in a plastic sleeve.

To our visitors on 13 June @ 2pm,

Blonde male, dark haired female (change to suit),

I'm sorry I missed your visit but our CCTV sensor did let me know that you were here. Thanks to this I was able to watch your exploration of my yard.

Please call 07777 777777 if I can help you in any way.

Can you get stills of the footage? Print out the stills, attach them to the gate, with a note saying,

"Next time please smile. The police don't like grumpy faces."

I've got an alarm system off alarmsforfarms which texts my phone when it is triggered by someone breaking the beam. I don't yet have the CCTV to back it up though. I need a system that will run on 12v because I don't have mains electricity.

Eek, would you want a livery who thinks it is perfectly ok to climb over a locked gate and stroll around your property? If it was your house it would be OK too? I think you will find it is called casing the joint!

You could try phoning the local Police and ask to speak to the PC who deals with rural crime. We signed up to our local Farmwatch service and we get regular updates of any crime/anyone suspicious with reg no's and photo's (usually get text/e.mail every couple of days). This won't help with the problem you've already had but may help in the future. You also get a couple of signs to put in prominent places which are a good deterrent.

I didn't mean it was ok or you'd want them as a livery. It's not ok. Just they might not have meant any harm.

We have a live tannoy at work so it is doable. The monitoring station can say you are being watched on cctv, please leave or police will be called. Normally does the trick!

Not sure how expensive it would be but maybe u can get something on a smaller scale that links to ur phone so you fail into it to use the tannoy?
