No smoke without fire.

The link is over-dramatized however some of the claims have been found to be true on occasions. I have to say I do tend to research what I feed my animals and there are definitely some feed companies who put "things" into their feed which really shouldn't be there!

Well it is America and it is a bit over sensationalised...

But - to me some of it rings true... from the research I have done myself.

Personally I wouldn't feed my dog some brands of comercial foods having heard what goes into it. Plus I have seem my mum's dog suffer from numerous skin complaints that have only cleared up since they changed the food from a popular brand beginning with B to a more natural brand.

I know others won't agree, especially given the conversation I had with my mum which was something like 'well she's been on it for years and it hasn't done her any harm, look how healthy she is'... err yep... except for the skin problems, the eye problems and the fact that she now has heart disease (Not that I am saying these are definately related to diet - just that she isn't actually all that healthy).........

But if all i have read is true - i just wish there would be some kind of pet food revolution, so that people could buy pet food, knowing for sure that it is a good one.

Agree with Tia its overdramatized...u will find a conspiracy theory for everything if u google it...I certainly agree to some extent ...of course some commercialised foods cause health, skin, behavioural problems, allergies, much the same as human foods.
Not all commercialised foods can be placed in the same band.

Looks like he's trying to sell something to me. I believe if you look at statistics dogs (and cats) are living longer, healthier lives due to better nutrition and advances in veterinary care. The really cheap brands of food contain a lot of fillers and cr@p but the better brands are ok. I have fed one of the premium brands of food for years and my dogs have mostly led very long, healthy lives. I've got no problem with people who want to cook for their dogs or feed raw but feeding a premium kibble works for me.

Yea I guess, I'm trying to think what I could do for them that wouldn't cost me a load of time and effort?

Gah - it would almost be easier to feed kids!

You only have to look at the wheat gluten scare over here to see how woefully the pet food industry is policed (renal failure was prevalent in dogs and cats that had been eating the contaminated Iams, Eukanuba etc.).

Prose, I've never heard about the renal failure/contaminated Iams and Eukanuba. What was that all about? I actually bought two large bags of Iams over the weekend at Tesco and my daughter is insisting I return them (which I will do) since both Iams and Eukanuba apparently test on animals and I don't mean they feed the stuff to them to see whether they like it, if you know what I mean!.

Some fo it rings true-just think how much crap is allowed in human food and remember pet food has much less strict regulations BUT he is plugging a book, so pinch of salt is essential

Have to say you do notice a huge difference in dogs when you switch from that well know "top breeders recomend it" shite to a better food.
Aunts danes were normally feed raw,she wasnt able to get hold of breeder friend who gets it for her and they droped condition, became sluggish and devoloped skin complaints in a WEEK on that crap.
She bought some chudleys the next time she couldnt get their raw feed and they had no trouble at all.
