Would be a pretty silly thing to do if the horses weren't being used for hunting, much better selling them for profit would it not? But even so, i'm sure it made people think...

Okay let's get the facts on this picture. It was a publicity stunt that was viewed badly by the hunting community. However the horse was already dead and was not shot for the purposes of the photograph. It was taken in as part of a knacker round and then used for this stunt.

The point it was trying to raise in the debate was that if there was an outright ban, which we were facing - rather than the hodge podge of the law that we got - hunting would not have been able to continue in any way, shape or form and the chances were plenty of animals would have been put down - including hunt horses, hirelings and those ex-racehorses who find a future on the hunting field.

It also raised questions of who dispose of fallen and casualty stock in the countryside. Without hunt kennels - a cheap option for fallen stock disposal would have been removed.

This was the so-called Real CA stunt at the Labour Party conference, I think. As CC says, it was a fairly cr*p publicity stunt not least because the people responsible did NOT follow through and make the press aware of what they were trying to 'promote'.

It was fairly tastless - and sadly achieved nothing because the Real CA went to ground as soon as the sh*t hit the fan - so the 'message' just didn't get through!

The point about deadstock, though, is a valid one. The hunts do invaluable work in dealing with all sorts of deadstock (and putting down horses humanely and efficiently and disposing of the carcase for distressed owners.) Funnily enough, the Labour government uses the hunts to deal with TB reactors etc - they couldn't cope otherwise!! My husband quite enjoys sending the monthly bill to DEFRA - nice to know they are subsidising hunting!

Ah I know the people that did this and they got in a bit of trouble over it (well quite a lot actually) but combat_claire is correct about the motives.

Not the best way to gather support for hunting.
Wonder if the owners knew what happend to it?

Then again sometimes shock tactics are the ones that are remembered
