I am sorry to ask this but is there any such thing as a meat man that would come and collect and take the horse away to be put down?

Not that this should have to be said but no nasty comments please, I have been asked to find out for someone, not something I would do but some people are in desperate need!

Your local knackerman will come to your field and PTS in situ. There will be a charge of about £200.

If you want a horse taken away in a trailer and transported to an abbatoir to save costs, then the fastest way to achieve that is to advertise it very very cheap and ask no questions of the people who turn up and give you a few quid.

For the sake of the horse, please spend the £200.

Try your local hunt. It will be the cheapest option and in my experience the best for the horse. Ours will come out despatch and take away for a fraction of what the vet would charge.

I'm not going to discuss why as I have no idea, but the horse can not be PTS where it is living.

This is a bad situation and the poor horses will get the brunt of it if I can not help find a experienced meat man that will come and collect this horse.

If it was up to me the horse would have the hunt to his field and be munching a big bucket of food.

Sadly its not up to me, I feel bad for the horse, hence trying to help it

Hi,
If you friend (or you) phones the Hunt and explains the situation....the Hunt will transport the horse to the kennels at PTS there.
Best of luck in what seems to be a bad situation.

Absolutely the hunt. Don't just elt him be picked up by anybody, doesn't bear thinking about what could happen. Any possibility of a loan is the horse rideable or as a companion? Why PTS

Where abouts are you? With our local hunt you can take a horse to the kennels & they will do it there.

There is also a guy that collects for Woburn Safari Park, but i think he would have to shoot the horse at home. Is there a local yard that might help you out?

Horrible situation, do ring local hunt first & see what they say. Hope you get it sorted.

Search for your local fallen stock service. Although they usually collect ours would have no objection if you took the animal there yourself.

OP, do you have any neighbouring yards/farms that you could lead the horse to and then put down. We did this for an owner that could not cope. Obviously this is a non starter if the owner wants the dead weight payment. If that is the case then transport to Potters is the only way to ensure the horse is dealt with correctly.

Vets will put down horses at the practice if the hunt can't but obviously you would need transport. Is there anyone who could help you out? If the horse is to go for meat it must not have had bute.

Not all hunts have transport now, ours doesn't.

However, a very nice man recommended by the vets deals with all these situations. Normally he would PTS at home and take the body to the kennels, but I daresay this sort of person could also take the animal away to be PTS if needed. Ask the vets for their recommendation.

Or could you rent transport. There are people who will transport your pony for you. Obviously depends on money available.

Phone around hunts, I've heard if a few where the owners wanted the last sounds the horse to hear to be the hounds..... I'm sure there will be one out there with some transport!

So sorry to read of the situation and how hard it is for you to help the horse. The BHS have trained people to support situations where horses have to be PTS, would it help to contact them for advice and support.

Thank you, my question was actually a bit late, thank fully my super little friend persuaded horrid owner to have the horse put down by the hunt. Thank god for the poor horse.

Rip big man x
