Hi all i've been off line for a week but i've been dying to tell you all what Herbie got upto On the 24th june.
Everyone at the yard was going to a show so at about 5pm on the friday i desided as he had been a good boy all week I would take him to. I got him in and bathed him. He was as good as gold bless him. Esp considering when he first came you couldn't get near him with the hose :). He even started grooming me when i was rubbing the shampoo in Bless him It made a nice change from him trying to bite and kick me :p :D :D.
I put him in a stable and he tucked into his hay. The next morning i arrived at the yard and got him ready. I was alittle nervous about loading him as he has never been in the lorry before but he walked streight up the ramp :D.
We arrived and i entered two inhand classes. I unloaded him and he was like MR chilled. We walked around and he was so good. It was very quiet to begin with and there was only 3 people in the first class. Great i thought not many entrys i'll deff get a rosette :p. We where in class 2, novice inhand. We entered the ring and started walking round. 10 people where entered in this class :(. Anyway he was a little star. He walked well round the arena and even trotted nicely inhand. (I have only ever trotted him up inhand once and that was the day i went to try him)

The judge absolutly loved him and we got 2nd in the first class. I was so proud of him i burst into tears when the judge gave me his rosette. :o Luckly i had told her about him so she knew why i was abit emotional. I had also spoken to one of the other competitors in the ring. As i walked round the show ground leading Herbie waiting for my next class everyone was talking about him and admireing him. :D :D :D

Our next class was M&M inhand. Again it was one of the biggest classes of the day with 10 entrys. Once again he was a super star. There was lots of lovely M&Ms in the class and some looked very well bred. I didn't hold much hope for my little forest bred I was just so pleased that he was behaving. He wasn't trying to kick any other horses or the judge :p :D. The judge called in the final placings and we had come 5th. I was so proud i thought i was going to burst. The judge said he was a lovely example of a new forest. :D :D

My boss started telling me i should take him in a ridden class as he was being so well behaved. But i didn't want to push him and ruin a wonderful day. Although she said she would push him I refused. He's my pony and i will ride him at a show when i think he's ready.
It all went abit pear shaped when i went to load him back in the lorry. Would the little sod go back in. No he was back to being Horrid horrid herbie  . It only took about 30 mins to get him in so it wasn't to bad. The only trouble was i had no expereanced help and one of the helpers nearly got kicked as they tried to smack him with a leadrope to get him in the lorry. But thats a whole different rant   and i don't want to let it ruin a fairly happy post from me for a change. ;) :D :D
Thankyou for reading. :D

Brilliant! I am so glad he did well and that you can be really proud of him.
What are positive difference you are making in his life :)

Thanks guys. Over a week later and i'm still :D :D Might all change this afternoon. He's had a week off and i've got to start riding him again ;) :)

brighteyes I totaly agree. Chestnuts are the best (esp mares) but bay roans are a very close second :p :D :D

That's brilliant glad you had such a good day out apart from the loading home...but that will get better with time and more outings I'm sure. Well done to both of you!

Wow, well done Laura (and Herbie!), what a little star he is turning out to be in your care!

30mins to load isn't that bad; when I had to transport Stacy to her new yard it took us three hours to get her on the box!

p.s. Totally agree about the chesnut mares! :D:D

Well done the pair of you.

30 minutes is good by some standards. Something to work on but you succeeded in the end.

Someone not very far away from me stuffing their face in a field can take 2 hours and manage to kick out all the back lights too in a temper tantrum! I would've been thrilled with 30 mins!

Sounds like it was a very good day. Don't let his "behaviour" spoil it for you!

Thanks guys. I was prity pleased it only took 30 mins to load him. Especialy as i only had my non horsey OH, Two terrified children and one other clueless person (the one who nearly got there head kicked in trying to hit him with a leadrope ) to help me. I was anoyed about the other person who was there who could have come to help but just stood at the otherside of the showground talking on the phone watching us struggle and only came over once we had loaded him and said "oh you got him in then"

Lucy used to take hours and hours to load and often used to get away from me and i had to chase her across the show ground to catch her again to carry on trying to load her. Malibu_Stacy I LOVE chestnut mares :p :D :D :D But eventualy i got her so she practicaly loaded herself :D Herbie will get there in the end the trouble is the only time he's realy travelled before was when he was sold on to a new owner :( Soon he'll realise he's stuck with me forever :p ;) :D :D

Well done to you and Horid Herbs, he looks far from horrid in those pics but I'll take your word for it, they always look like butter wouldn't melt, he does awfully cute though.:)

LOL Kenzo. He has a sweet face it's his back legs you have to watchout for. :p :) He's already 100x sweeter than when i got him in Nov. I think that nice pony I knew was in there may finaly be coming out :D :D

arrrrrrr the horrid ones are the best, more character and cheekyness, never a dull moment an all! :D then when you do get a cuddle out of them, it's extra special.

Kenzo one of the photos i bought from the show was us having a very sweet moment in the ring. I look like i'm about to burst into tears (we had just been pulled in second) and Herbs is giving me a great big kiss. They don't have it on the web site so i can't put a link up :( But it is my fav photo of him. :D and reminds me why i must keep going with him. :)

Thankyou thelwell_girl

Eeeeeek! Well done Herbie! :D
Such a good lad! And eyy, you couldnt not expect him to put a 'horrid herbie' touch on at the end by not loading ;) Well done with the placings! You must be very proud and I expect to see many more of these type of posts! :)
*big pat for herbie!*

Thanks aimeejay. Hopefuly when my life is sorted we will go to loads more shows. I think he enjoyed it (maybe thats why he wouldn't load :p although i think it prob had more to do with there lovely grass ;) :D :D)
