Well Herbs was well and truly in the dog house this morning. :mad:
I'm not one for wearing my hat for everything I do with horses but i'm glad I had it on while tacking Herbie up this morning. :rolleyes:
I was putting his saddle on in the stable and he kept trying to nip me. Not realy anything new there :rolleyes: He doesn't realy try to bite me anymore, he just trys to grab my cloths and tug on them. :rolleyes: It was getting annoying so I growled at him and told him to stop which he did. :) But while I continued tacking him up I lost my balance for some reason and moved my arm suddenly to stop me from falling over.
Herbs must have thought I was going to hit him as suddenly he put his ears flat back and went to bite me on the head. :eek: He made contact with my head so hard I could feel his teeth trough my hat :eek: God knows what would have happened had I not had my hat on. I yelled out and Herbs shot to the back of the stable and stood there looking at me.
I don't think he ment it as he did look very sorry and for our whole ride he tried so hard to behave himself.
Poor boy it was almost like he was having a flash back or something. :( I wish he could tell me what happened to him in the passed. :(
It's moments like this that show why he will be with me forever. He will never make a childs pony.
He's lucky I love him so much realy, I don't know anyone else who would put up with him half the time ;) :p :D :D :D
 
aww poor Herbs, he's obviously not had the best of time before he came to you :(
Glad you had your hat on and no one got hurt...guess it was just one of those split second things on his part, and at least you know there's a reason for it, not just him being nasty. He's certainly very lucky to have you now though, and I'm sure he's starting to realise that!

When my boy arrived 3 months ago we had lots of incidents like this, where I wasn't thinking about my body language and he bit me before I 'had a chance to hit him' (obviously I wasn't going to, but he thought I was going to).

He hardly ever goes to bite me now, but at the weekend I raised a hoofpick (by accident) and he immediately went very defensive; ears back and snapping the air with his teeth.

It really does make you wonder what happened to the poor things in the past.

Your pony is very lucky to have you :)

Sometimes when things happen suddenly animals do things (as we do ourselves) as an instinctive reflex reaction don't they? Probably the moment he'd done it he realised what he'd done. :(

Princess Jess He has had a very rough past I think. When I bought him he was 8 and had had 6 other owners already :( The woman I bought him off had only had him 6 mounths (and when I went to try him he had been doped
:( ) , the owners before that only had him 5 :eek: :( He's been passed around alot poor lad and I think someone along the line was very crule to him. He's soooooooooooo much better now than when I first got him though :)

Footlights Poor boy. He's lucky he's got you now. I wish Herbs could tell me what happened sometimes. Not that it would change anything but I would be able to understand why he does the things he does better. :)

FionaM12 It was all so fast. A compleat natural reaction. He was defending himself before I could hurt him. Obviously I wasn't going to hurt him but he wasn't going to wait to find out. :( He did seem realy sorry bless him. He gave me a big kiss once I reassured him it was ok.

Sprout and Booboos theres just something about the little guy. You know how much I love him :D
 
poor pony sounds like he had a rough time before he met you. A lot of people would have probably have just bashed him one not thinking through why perhaps he had done it. Lucky pony to have found you!
