get a text from an old yard owner at 5.45 saying "do you keep your Andy near Y****y fire station?"
i replied "Y..E..S? WHY??" & got no reply so thought nothnig of it untill 20 mins later when i get "sorry Ej, tried to catch & check him over but he is not having any of it & only on 3 legs!"

mad panic & throw all 3 kids in car as OH is working away this weekend & race down there, he is stood by gate one leg held up under himself & calling like mad to the others that are in stables, he let me catch him & check leg over (bit warm) & walked in ok for me but not happy weight bearing on it properly so washed down the leg & have tucked him in to a nice deep bed for night & will see how he is in the morning first thing.
looking at the mud by the gate i think he was stressing to come in with his mates & slipped.

im so glad that my friends reconise him despite being a non-descript grey sec A just a shame he is still so distrusting of people he doesnt know very well.
Silly little monster that he is.

.

Do you not have a rule about not leaving one on it's own when the others come in? If the person before you had got him in with theirs then he wouldn't have stressed and fallen.

Anyway - I really hope he will be ok. Bear in mind in the morning that he will be stiff from standing in the stable. If he is not too bad, a gentle in hand walk along the road may help ease him.

What a nightmare! Why do we do it? Cos we love them.

Really hope he's ok. What a shock to get.

Boxers - even if there is a rule, I presume that because the pony is distrusting - there is a good chance the last person bringing their horse in, may not have been able to catch him?

there is only me & friend on private yard & when i left him this afternnoon he was in stable munching his hay as the weather was due to turn. when friend got there & turned her 2 out he was callnig so she put him out for a few hours again & was going to call me when she was bringing hers in if she couldnt catch him (but normally has no issues getting him in)
most people give in with him after an hour or so as he really does get himself into a state.
hoping the hosing & deep bed makes him feel better as he really is my little saviour in so many ways.

This sounds just like our old pony. He was absolutely fine am and then pm went to get him in from the field and he wouldnt bear any weight on it. He had an abcess which is common when its wet

****ANDREW UPDATE ****
this morning he is weightbearing on it & the heat has gone although still a little stiff on it, been for a walk and a graze in hand to loosen it up & now back in stable for the day with lots of hay.
the other 2 wont go out till 3/4ish when their owner comes down & i dont want him to hurt himself any more than he already has.

seemed his normal dippy self when i popped up a little while ago, munching on hay & some BIG carrots (by big i mean nearly as long as his head!!) & was happily walking about on it unlike last night of first thing this morning.

Glad to hear that - hopefully hosing and rest will heal it.

Can you tell me how you pronounce your name? Is it Irish?

Boxer its prounounced A-veen or A-ven depending on where in ireland you go. Its my daughters name as i couldnt find any veriation of my name or the boys that wasnt already taken & hers is quite rare nowadays. lets just hope she doesnt want to join here though or im in trouble!!!
