Horrific news - poor poor horses & owners :( :(

You don't think the was poisoned to knock it down to do the same as was done to the other one, but maybe they got disturbed or something?

Morbid, but would like to know more about the poison :( I'm in that area and finding this all too terrifying

Maybe it's not personal to the owner, but maybe someone wants horses out of the field - for whatever reason.

Some friends of mine recently moved to a field that has just been fenced for horses and on the day of arrival were met by a torrent of abuse from a local who didn't want to see horses there.

This could well be the case :( I wonder if they tested the other horse for poison at the post mortom?

I think I would be moving my horses immediatly and moving house too tbh! Poor poor owner and poor horses! Some people really are sick! Why target innocent animals who cant defend themselves. I hate people that hurt/damage things people love get to the person they have a problem with. why not just take it up dierectly with the person

Wasn't it Alfriston that someone was sticking pins in apples and chucking them in with some horses?

I wonder whether that was in the same field? I thought Alfriston was a small village/area?

Think it's absolutely dreadful.... poor horses and owner :(

Nope it was about 15 miles West, in Rottingdean.
Alfriston is lovely ... Or I thought it was until recently!

Shocking, that someone would want to hurt defenceless animals for whatever reason.

If it is a grudge with the owner, take it up with the owner, not do this too animals. Regardless...if I was the owner, I would fence up the boundary and wire it into the mains!..Including the access. Maybe an idea to install video camera's at all access's, and erect automatic movement lighting.

I did this (for my friend) when I realised (via this forum) someone was searching for one of her horses, which she recently purchased and having only owned if for 4 and a half days when her daughter for the first time went to mount it, as she attempted to mount the horse and before her right leg was centre back, the horse reared up and flipped right over, landing on the girl, causing horrendous injuries. Under the trades description act... The horse was rejected and a full refund sought. Then the seller or her friend placed a post on here, in order to find out where the horse was. You can use your imagination as to why!

Full security including movement lighting & cameras were erected and this worked wonders, it also stopped walkers from walking their dogs on the land, leaving foul dog deposits, (for the children to step in) leaving gates open and washing their boots in the water troughs. Some people have no respect!

I hope they find out who has done this and lock them up forever! (but of course they will not!)

Fears of serial Sussex horse killer

Fears of a serial horse killer have been raised after a second body was found.

Calvin, a seven-year-old Welsh Cross Thoroughbred, was discovered dead in a field at the top of Winton Road in Alfriston just after 12.30pm yesterday.

His owner, Dawn Randall, also owned Rascal – the 18-month old Lagdon Cob who was stabbed and mutilated last month.

She believes Calvin was poisoned by the same person who killed Rascal.

Mrs Randall, 44, from Eastbourne, said: “I feel absolutely devastated and I can’t understand why this is happening. Calvin was a beautiful, lovely horse and it makes me feel sick to think someone would want to hurt him.”

The horse was bought for Mrs Randall’s 19-year-old daughter Kelly, who is said to be heartbroken.

Mrs Randall said: “I called the vet, who said it seemed like poison to him. The police officers told me at that stage they were treating it as suspicious.

“I feel scared because it seems like someone is targeting me. I was the previous owner of the last horse who was killed, so I can’t believe it’s a coincidence.”

A police spokeswoman declined to comment on whether the deaths were being linked.

She said: “Police are in the early stages of investigation and are keeping an open mind as to the cause of death of the seven-year-old horse."

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Sussex Police on 0845 6070999.

There's been a bit of confusion going on I think - the lady in the article did once own the first horse, but not at the time of his death - he had been sold on before he died.

I also understand that a postmortem was performed but the second horse had NOT been poisoned, cause of death undetermined (probably natural).

Apart from the first horse having once been coincidentally owned by the unfortunate second horse owner, and both horses being from the same area, there doesn't appear to be anything too odd going on. It's all tragic but not necessarily some premeditated vendetta. It'll be interesting to see what else surfaces.

I just wanted to post the above to say please don't panic and become paranoid, especially to those who live locally. It is of course prudent to strengthen security and be more observant as it would seem the first horse was attacked, but it seems it could be an isolated incident, albeit a horrific one.
