Horrified - mare kicked in the sponge!

Beautiful big mare on my yard, saw the evidence yesterday (does anyone even want pics?)

She's going to be fine - apparently the vet said, females are made to rip there...

She got double barrelled, one hoof hitting her flank, the other split her open from bum down to vulva (is that the right term?)

So ladies and indeed gents lets send the girl some get well soon vibes as we can all sympathise being kicked in the sponge must bloody kill!

My best RID mare got a kick in the same place when 6 months in foal - but it was a side to side gash about half-way down. Needed 15 stitches. Healed beautifully and she gave birth to a beautiful filly who won the Yearling class at the Breed Show last week. Mare back in foal on the foaling heat - can't see a scar! And yes - vet was right!

That happened to my mare only hers was cut by rubbing on a post must have slipped and rubbed on barbed wire. It hurt when she pee'd as she would shiver. It healed very quickly.
