might be a bit of a dumb question but when looking through a schedule for a show thats coming up it uses 'hors concours' a few times, haven't got a clue what it means!!! lol
Think it means taking part without actually competing as such, i.e. you might enter a competition to give a young horse experience or what-have-you but your marks will not be counted in the competition as such.
It happened recently when I was at a TREC competition; someone was ineligible to compete in the class but asked to compete HC as they wanted to give their youngster the experience.
It would normally be at the discretion of the judges.
It means that you are allowed to compete in the class but are not eligible for any placings. Some people use it as a warm up class if they don't fullfil the criteria for that class.
Literally translates as 'without competition' or similar from French. It is taking part but not competing ie it doesn't matter if they've the winning score as they're not in the rosettes. I've seen it used to school young horses, to put older horses in classes they're too qualified for, and at my yard folk use it so that their pony can jump in the horse derbies or vice versa.
