So I had my mare away overnight for a 2 day thing Fri/Sat (eventing). After we got home I turned her out as usual (she lives out 24/7 normally) and a couple of hours later I went to feed them. She had been sweating and was filthy down only one side, on the opposite side her stomach muscle (the heave sort of line) was quivering / fluttering like some sort of weird spasms were going on. She seemed absolutely fine/normal and was grazing and eating hay etc. I kept a close eye on her and the spasms stopped but that musle still seems quite tense on both sides. She continues to be absolutely fine within herself hence I havent had the vet out as she's moving and acting perfectly normally. I was thinking as she was dirty on only one side, perhaps she'd been tanking round the field with her buddy (who hadn't had her for 2 days so was a bit wired) and perhaps she fell onto her side? Maybe she's pulled a muscle? Anyone heard of this before??

Please keep a close watch on your horse. Those symptoms are very like ones my horse had after an event. He had Equine Grass Sickness.

Is your horse drinking, eating and poo-ing OK?
Can you hear gut sounds ( gurgles) ?

If not I suggest you call your vet. It may ‘just’ be colic but in any case it is better to be safe....

I hope it is none of the above and your horse is well very soon.

Thanks Meredith, she's behaving totally normally hence why I havent phoned the vet - yes can definately hear gut sounds as my first thought was colic. She's not rolled since and has been grazing all day. Thanks
