Does anyone know if there are any horse ambulance companies in the north/ northeast of england that are fully equipped with sling, winch etc?

I heard while out today that someone I knew of has had to have their horse pts over the weekend due to it needing emergency colic surgery in the night and they dont have transport and werent able to get any transport for it and the vets had no option.

I know there is one in worcs nr droitwich as have used him personally and also saw him regularly at the vets I used to work at in glos, but havent heard of any further north except for racecourse ones and they arent available to joe public.

Feel free to pm me if you dont want to announce it out loud. Thanks.

Thanks, ive checked theirs out its just a trailer, doesnt seem to have any specialist equipment on it and this horse was struggling to stay on its feet and would have needed slinging.

Vets should have contacts, but pet crematorium near Lanchester have a trailer and winch. There are also several 'kn@ckermen' companies. Pet crem is pretty expensive (I was quoted about £400 as opposed to almost £100 by the others).

Hi sueeltringham,
I spoke to my vet today and he couldnt think of one. It wasnt for disposal as the knackers took it. The pet crem at langley park only deal with dead ones and this one was alive it needed surgery and was very painful even under sedation.

Cooper Wilson in N.Yorks used to operate a horse ambulance, I think he has a website you can contact him on, I'm not sure what specialist equipment he has though. The other option might be to contact racecourses as they might use them?

Devon area....http://tss4.info/EK/JTP/

Oh really likes this guy, he really knows his stuff with grumpy racehorses (that don't believe they're injured)

I'm surprised an equine vet hasn't made the effort to find out who covers their area - OH always has directions to his most used referral practices and horse ambulance contacts in his car at all times.

Might be worth asking any local hunts that run a point to point, or local HT/event venues for who they use. I'd also be surprised if the racecourse ones are exclusive to racecourses as each course doesn't hold that many mettings
