I have seen quite a lot in a national paper about Ceaser Millan (sp)) and his current uk tour and I have read with interest many debates on here about the parelli/monty gang and i was wondering how his (ceasers) show compares to these?.

Does he pick his dogs in the same way as they pick the horses? Is the "show" as brain washing to the audience as it appears to be to some of the horse people?

Or is is another American razzamatzzz extravaganzer (sp) that really should be kept over there?

I went to see Cesar Millan on thurs night at Birmingham. It was really good actually and he was very humourous too! It was more like a seminar. He didnt actually have many dogs on stage with him because of course that isnt a normal place for a dog to be in so wouldnt show the same behaviour. It was more about him explaining his methods and the thought behind them which you dont get so much when you watch the tv shows as they are quite individual cases. A lot of what he said made sense.

It was an enjoyable night and we came away with a better understanding of everything!

We're going to see Cesar Milan this week coming at Nottingham and are really looking forward to it. We had a few probs with our GSD when he was younger - with dominance - and having watched Cesar's tv series and read his book we used some of his methods and they really worked and our dog is a much nicer boy for it.

I'm afraid some of what I call the 'happy clappy' brigade don't like him and some of his methods,. but they make sense to me - these people seem to try to treat dogs like humans rather than dogs.

I'm going to see Cesar in Glasgow next weekend so will be able to tell you then

I've read his books though as can put a lot of what he says into horsey situations.

Have you read other dog behaviour books, so that you have some idea of what the alternatives are, and why his methods are so widely discredited?

I have to say I dont like the way he put the collars up around the top of their necks to gain the control to start with or the use of shock collars. But they seem to be just for a short while or extreme cases I think.

I just found what he said made sense. He was very amusing too which made it fun to watch him. I dont understand why other professionals dont agree with his methods? Other than uses of the collars etc. Isnt the basics of what he is trying to teach us correct? I do believe we treat our dogs too much like humans.
