looking to buy a 2/3 year old pony, must be under 13hh and im not willing to spend more then £200. i think my best bet is to go to auction. but i want to know the best ones to go too and what to expect. do you just turn up and look? thanks.

Hi.....what part of the country are you in? I'm guessing that you don't want to be travelling hundreds of miles and paying ££££ in diesel to get your acquisition home......maybe I'm wrong? Also, do you want a native or happy with whatever?

Generally speaking, find out who the auctioneers are and get a copy of their Terms & Conditions (phone up or off website).....read through carefully. This should tell you about payment, commission, out of ring sales, returns and everything else.

Personally, I would recommend going to a sale or two first just to get the feel and understand what goes on. Also helpful to have someone who is familiar with bidding and strategy...... you don't always want to go in straightaway.

Good luck.

PS Set yourself a budget and STICK TO IT! It's very easy to get carried away in the heat of the moment....and don't forget your Kleenex....unfortunately, there are often some tear-jerkers around.
