Riding in the field this morning, decided to play around in rope headcollar instead of bridle (for no particular reason other than that I think I faff with my hands too much and I was interested in if he would go better if I took the bit away so didn't feel the need to fiddle). Walk was lovely, trot lovely, first canter or two was fine. Then in no uncertain terms he told me where to go. I asked for left lead canter, he slammed the anchors on, pinned his ears back and then after crabbing like this for a bit, I insisted and he threw in a massive buck.
He does have a buck in him when excited, but this isn't really like him. Whenever I read these posts and people suggest back/teeth/saddle I always think, check your damn riding, chances are you're asking the question wrong. I think thats the case here, perhaps I held too much with my hands, or tightened too much in the leg so he felt he couldn't move forwards. He has also started to hack badly in the last week, just when I thought we had cracked it on at least one route.
No point to this really, i'm just frustrated as things have been going so well, and the more I think about why he does things the worse I ride. Saddler can't make it out until January and I don't know any others in Cambs I would trust, and I may get a second physio out to him. He had one 3 weeks ago who said he was fine. He's usually so happy and cheerful and just seems a little out of character at the moment.
