I have had my mare around 18month
She has always been good in traffic
I was at a DIY yard then moved to full livery yard now were back at the DIY yard
I have just got all new tack as we had ours stolen
On Saturday we set off out for a hack gOt to the main road and she freaked out? She would not go past the petrol station at all a crack with the wip, stroking and talking trying to make her go forward nothing worked, so back down the lane we went and she was fine so I tried again and got the same reaction
The road is a main road so it is too dangerous to have a battle with her but I have no other way out of the yard
She has never had a problem before and nothing has happened at the station for her to be frightened
I have tried walking out with people and horses and she does the same

Any suggestions?

For her to suddenly behave out of character makes me think it is pain related. You mention new tack, so possibly saddle related. Other possiblities; - is the bit sitting correctly on her new bridle/sore mouth ? Has she any muscular pain or thrush in her frogs ?
My cob, who I've had for years, started seriously napping on the roads although when going out in company or homeward bound, he was fine. Didn't seem to make sense but it turned out to be a deep thrush infection and once sorted he was fine again.

Whatever the cause, you can bet your horse has a reason for her behaviour that seems quite valid to her.
