Does anyone find that their horse is dull to school at home and lacking energy / enthusiam?

My boy is such hard work to school at home and really cant be bothered, but when i take him out somewhere, he schools like a dream and we get complimented all the time!

Our school at the yard is quite small compared to other yards but any ideas how to help him 'pick up' a bit!?

Is he bored with it? Ie does he get plenty of hacking as well. Maybe school in company, include poles etc lots of transitions and keep sessions short.

Has he always been this way? It could be seasonal. There are 4 at my yard (out of 8 who school consistently) who I'd say are a bit flat at the moment. I am wondering whether there are factors such as the poor grass and heat going on (plus, they are starting already to grow winter coats).

I only do 20-30min sessions with him so that he doesnt get bored. He does get hacked out a lot and we also box up and go to different places.
There isnt anyone else at my yard to school with unfortunately and the school isnt really big enough for more than 1 anyway.

He has always been 'flatter' at home than out and about.
He is better if he is stabled during the day, he seems to have a little more energy than when he is out 24/7
