I have just heard from a good friend that someone I used to know before I moved back up north is trying to find a loaner for her horse. This particular horse is dangerous. It has seriously injured people in the past and owner has been advised to keep him as a companion only or have her PTS. What worries me is that this horse is advertised as a novice ride and people aren’t being given the full story about him.

The owner won’t listen when people are telling her that it is just plain wrong to loan this horse out as a novice ride, or to loan him out as a ridden horse at all.

Is there anything I can do? I would hate for anyone to get hurt or killed while on this horse when I know what I know about him.

Sorry, no advice but hope it all works out - sounds a bit of a nasty situation to be in.

OMG!! If someone was hurt or killed whilst riding said horse, she better hope she has good insurance!!
What exactlt is she getting out of loaning it, other than ridding of a dangerous horse! Would it not make more sense to have it PTS?

Some people are so clueless!

Out of interest, what made it dangerous?

"Out of interest, what made it dangerous?"

He bucks, rears and rolls, basically anything to get you off his back. He has had every thing checked a hundred times over, nothing physically wrong with him.

Vet advised PTS.

I suppose the only thing you can think about is that hopefully, he will be riding the horse first at the viewings? They then may see a bit more of what he's like before they get on and walk away. Then he only has himself to blame

Owner won't ride him - tells people she has a bad back and is unable to do so but that he is a novice ride. He can be ok for periods of time so it is possible someone would take him and not realise his problems until it was too late

as others have said i think its a, hope she has good insurance, or have faith that people will try the horse first and realise its not safe, and eventually your friend will hopefully give up!

At least she's not trying to sell it for £X thousand pounds! It will just get returned and hopefully when it chucks someone off it won't do any damage. I know not ideal, but far from as bad as it gets.

The horse clearly has issues so contact World Horse Welfare (ILPH) and speak to their welfare department. They may be able to give you some useful advice on how to deal with this.

I share a horse who has, if you want to phrase it that way, b*ggered off, bucked, bitten, thrown self at floor, reared (not ridden but to point of breaking nose on ceiling and/or going over backwards) and probably a few more things too.

But he doesn't do (most) of those things (most of the time)now and is a loving 'first' horse for me.

If not physical issues perhaps a quiet life hacking or something might suit this one more than whatever it was doing before? (She says looking on the bright side.)

Re: injuries - /any/ horse can easily injure someone. Similar falls etc are so varied in their consequences that there isn't a lot of point worrying abt what it has gone before.

Example: share horsey's more experienced owner saw him go over backwards with fear of pain so avoids certain things that he is fine abt with me.

What is the saying abt riding the horse you meet today?

Off to spread more rays of *sunshine*...
