hi all i posted a couple of days ago about my barefoot chap and his on going probs with being footy,i have since been bringing him in through the day and putting him out at night and he is getting more footy he is having a haylage net which he is not really eating much of and his back on fast fibre, pink powder, biotin, brewers yeast,85% mag and linseed,i just cant understand whats going on :(
when i walked him across the crushed concrete to get to his field he was awfull and he hasnt been that bad even when his shoes first came off!!he did trot off when he got to grass but was still short in his stride,it is because he isnt moving around so much being in the stable??please help as i just dont know what else to do
thanks in advance for any ideas.

Vet first thing tomorrow - if he is getting worse I would assume laminitis and give soaked hay, have him on a deep bed and no other feed, it will do no harm. Hope he gets better for you soon.

yes thats what im worried about, seems weird tho as i would of expected an improvement bringing him in?even tho its only been a few days.does lami happen that quick?ive never had a prob till shoes came off :(

Yes it will come on that fast. He will still be eating too much if out all night ,they just seem to eat faster!
He was probably already starting and now shoes are off it is more obvious.

totally agree with misst , cut out all the food/supplements, all sounds a bit - overloading on the system, cut out the haylage too, its a bit like giving chocolate to a kid and then wondering why they are bouncing of the walls, just plain soaked hay, plenty of water, think of it as toast and water for when you feel sick.

I would invest in some boots for your horse, my navicular horse has weeks being sound then all of a sudden it footy, without thinking now I do the following, I give him a bute, I wash with hoof disinfectant all of his feet, I treat them for thrush which he is prediposed to being navicular, and for turnout for three days I out his hoof boots on with gel pads, after 3 days well 2 most of the time he is sound, its like a reset button, I think of it as putting his comfy slippers on and because I use cavallo boots, his feet are comfy all day and he walks instantly better as soon as I out them on, he springs out to the field in his.

I would really take a second look at all the things you are offering your horse by way of food, the best thing I ever did for my horse was to start cutting things out one by one, I am still astonished at how little he know gets yet thrives better than before, and before you think, I wonder what this horse is, mine is a 17hh Trakehner x as big and strong as you like, breaks my heart not to take him competing anymore, but I will never stop trying to make his life as comfortable as possible everyday, can you tell I love him!
