but i want to get over this biting and going right at me  in the past few weeks shes been put onto baileys number 17... shes had hay for the past two nights due to mouldy haylege had yesterday and today off cause i feel like poo but shes been out today so not been stuck in bored all day.. teeth due next month, i think im going to get him out early just to be on the safe side and back was done 3/4months ago? ideas? thanks

has somebody else been looking after her? shes agressive when your sweeping, would make me think someone has cracked her with it.

have you thought about possible ulcers with her being uncomfortable when tacked/rugged up

Nope? the last time someone looked after her was end of september- begin off october and i really hope someone wouldt be so sick and do something like that

nope never thought about it actully... when are back man came out a few months ago he said she seems to just being marish?
thanks alot

If her temperament has changed that much, I would get the vet to investigate. There maybe something going on that isn't obvious, but is causing her discomfort and distress. Hope you get it sorted :)

I Wouldt Say Its Changed loads but its only been a day so far, its just shes getting stressed about me sweeping or doing up rugs? silly things and i just dont understand.. but yes ill see what shes like by end of the week and if shes still getting stressed its worth ringing them up even just to speak to them
thank you

Is she in season love? Our mare is in season and she ripped a chunk out of me suitable enough to put a belly bar through yesterday! xxx

Don't feel stupid. It's better to ask advice if you are worried about anything, than to ignore it. Keep an eye on her and if she remains the same or worsens, then talk to your vet :)

As above, I would get her checked out. I had a mare years ago who did this and it was down to ulcers. Easily fixed if caught early, but can be v uncomfortable if left, hence possibly her being grumpy to tack up?

Or as fh said, she's in season

Dont feel stupid, I didnt realise Dotty was in season til she squirted at me yesterday -nice, thanks love!!

JessandCharlie may well be right though, our mare had ulcers a while ago and she was a NIGHTMARE - this mixed with kissing spines made her a pure joy.

Is there any chance her girth has been done up too tightly? Sores under the saddle at all?? Have any fastenings on her rugs bent so they are scratching her or digging in when she is rolling?

Just some ideas. I have 2 horses that will try and nip while you are tacking up / doing rugs. One does it because he is a miserable git but doesnt bite , just nips and doesnt do it to everyone. The other started to do it after his girth was done up too tight, so now his girth is tripple checked before he is ridden and when I have spare time at work I spend afew mins at work changing his rugs very slowly. Ie. Tied up (I'm not having any horse chasing me thank you), rug unfastened - nice scratch - rug quartered - nice scratch - rug off - scratch etc etc. He does improve when time is put in like this.

They can both read you like a book and will do it more with nervy people than staff.

Oh That was a nice treat for you :o
yeahh will there be any other signs like ridingwise? apart from being a pain to tack up?
thanks alot :) xx

erm not that i think? i ride her at home on hole 3 and i can get it to hole 4 so shouldt be too tight?
ill try it thanks alot :D x

Has she been stabled a lot? Ours have to stay in most of the day due to very muddy fields and two that get severe mudrash, so they only go out in a small dry turnout paddock for two hours a day. By this point of the year they are all getting fed up, and ready for grass. My mare seems to get especially grumpy in January and February, then sweetens up once out more...
